Very Short Story Idea

Thought this might be fun. There’s a site where people contribute stories that are under 140 characters (as in, the size of a Twitter tweet). Can you come up with a story that fits this form? How short can you make your story?

Here’s the site:

Read some of them and see what you might come up with. Feel free to share them here. I’d love to hear genre fiction or memoir written this way!

Cool Hand Luke,|The champion makes his own luck. – Red Blaik|The best bet you get is an even break. – Franklin Pierce Adams|Hold em is to stud what chess is to checkers. – Johnny Moss|I believe in luck. How else can you explain the success of those you dislike? -Jean Cocteau|The best throw of the dice is to throw them away.

  2. I don’t have time for this. I am working on a very important short story. But, you knew I love the challenge of ‘writing short’ when you suggested the site. Damn you, Kim Wehner, Damn you.

Ha! I was thinking of you when I saw this site. Here’s mine (I came up with this while waking up this morning):

She swallowed a scream. Peeked between shaking fingers. The world tilted; she felt ill. Dizzy. Her first ride on a roller-coaster.

  4. ok, 140 words = doable… 140 characters..? a challenge, especially since punctuation is much of a requirement in story telling, but here it is:

    twitter scifi:

“I arrived early. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s my first time time-travelling. It turned on, beep. I didn’t want to be late; could I be?

stop by TrueLee Fiction ( for more scifi fiction

Ah! Very cool, iamjimmydean. And yes, I discovered it to be quite a challenge myself! I’ll have to check out your site. Thanks for playing. 🙂

  5. ok. Take two:

“He didn’t tell her where he put the fire extinguisher. He didn’t bother her with things like that. Maybe if he did, he’d still be alive.”

Ooh…I like that one a lot, which either means it’s really, really good or else I’m a sicko. I’m going to go with it being really, really good. You should send it to One Forty Fiction!

  7. I’m a man; that word alone says a lot. I did something wrong, men don’t apologize, like other men, I live both unforgiving, unforgiven, and alone. I should have said I was sorry when I had the chance.

  8. I edited my story using a character counter. The result?

I’m a man; that word alone says a lot. I did something wrong, men don’t apologize, like other men, I am unforgiving, unforgiven, and alone.
