One thing that sucks about writing

Do you want to know one of the things that truly sucks about writing?  (Tough, I’m going to tell you anyway.)

You’ve just spent HOURS writing the final 5000 words to your short story – and you love it.  Okay, it’s only a first draft, but it’s all you hoped it would be.

Sit back.  Relax.  Bask in the glow of your brilliance.  You have earned it.

Then, you remember.  Oh ya, there was that portion at the beginning that you couldn’t figure out how to handle.  The part you skipped, just so you could keep writing.  The part that now you MUST figure out and perfect.  No editing until you actually finish the story.  Even if finishing is at the beginning.  *&^^$&(

Hey, be happy you’ve ended it! You’ve already done what I couldn’t for 80% of the work I’ve started. (I’m sure I’m not alone in that regard.) Besides, most people end up deleting their story beginnings anyway, either starting completely over *raises hand* or beginning at a scene that is much more lively, which happens to be three or four pages into the story. So I will congratulate you anyway. Now I need to catch up with you.
